Wether you’re panick planning or prepping ahead, here are five workout routines for the weeks leading to a fitness photoshoot

Are you panicked as you prepare for a fitness photoshoot? Or maybe you’re our favorite kind of people who are planning and reasearching ahead of time! Whether it's for a fitness competition, a modeling portfolio, or simply for personal achievement, you want to look your absolute best. To get there, you need to focus on a well-rounded fitness routine that targets all major muscle groups. Here are 5 workouts to consider in the days and weeks leading up to your photoshoot.

  1. Strength training: Wether you split your days in upper/lower body versus doing full body each day, focus on your compount movements supplemented by the smaller supplements. Think: barbbell squats, deadlifts, pushups, bench press , pullups, planks and over headpresses. Compount movements his multiple areas of the body at once, giving you the most most noticeable results. These movements are going to burn more calories and increase your natural testosterone. We’re not suggesting you ignore the micro lifts, but your hard work has been done, so the final couple weeks of prep should give you the most bang for your buck.

  2. Pilates on the mat: Pilates is a great low-impact workout that targets your core and improves your posture. For an intense yet satisfying workout, grab your yoga mat and perform a series of exercises, including the plank, the bridge, and side-leg lifts. This isn’t the exercize program to get shredded, but it will lengthen, strengthen and do some toning.

  3. Cardio intervals: High-intensity interval training is perfect for burning fat and building endurance. Mix up your routine with a combination of jumping jacks, burpees, mountain climbers, lunges, jump lunges, jump rope and sprints for an effective cardio workout that will keep your energy level high. What I love about these types of workouts before a fitness photoshoot is that given the shorter duration of the workout, your body doesn’t feel as wrecked, but you can trim up in noticeable ways quite rapidly.

  4. Spin class: Spin classes are a popular way to get a great cardiovascular workout in a group setting. The high-energy atmosphere can push you to your limits, and the music can help you stay motivated throughout your workout. Some spin classes are now incorporating strength training, so this is double whammy that’s perfect for toning up and trimming down. I like spin for cardio because it saves my knees from too much running wear and tear.

  5. Yoga flow: Yoga is a great way to find balance and improve flexibility. Whether you take a class at your local studio or follow along with a video at home, a yoga session can help you de-stress and rejuvenate your body. For an added challenge, try a power yoga class to build strength and endurance. This and pilates is definitely something I would combine with strength and cardio, but it rounds out your regiment fabulously.

Don't forget to fuel your workouts with nutritious snacks and meals, and be sure to stay hydrated throughout the day. Many people are tempted to cut water down way too early which we highly suggest against (if you’re going to cut water, don’t start dropping intake more than three days before). With a consistent fitness routine and a healthy diet, you'll be ready to shine in front of the camera on photoshoot day. And if you need a professional fitness photographer to capture your best angles, we are here to help!
